Colonial National Historical Park (NHP) reached out to TRACEN Yorktown, urgently seeking volunteers to help remove invasive bamboo. This isn't just about clearing brush; it's a chance to make a real difference in preserving a vital piece of American history. By removing invasive bamboo, volunteers will be protecting native plants, wildlife habitat, and cultural landscape views at these significant sites. They are requesting assistance at two upcoming opportunities, each needing 40-50 volunteers:
Opportunity 1: Prepare a Historic Warehouse Site for Archaeological Survey
* What: Bamboo clearing between Main and Water Streets in Yorktown.
* When: Saturday, July 19th, 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM (meet at 8:00 AM)
* Where: Meet at the York County parking area between Archer Cottage and the Yorktown Pub on Water Street.
* Description: This area, previously sprayed, contains mostly dead bamboo. Clearing it will allow for an archeological survey, revealing more about this historic site.
