Lionsbridge FC is looking for Volunteers (July 3)

Published on 12 June 2025 at 12:17

Lionsbridge FC is a USL2 soccer team based on the Virginia Peninsula that plays at TowneBank Stadium at Christopher Newport University in Newport News (www.lionsbridgefc.com).  They have a very large fan base and enjoy terrific attendance game after game.  Luke Messick Futbol Charities has been selected to be the Community Champions non-profit organization for their home game on Thursday, July 3.  LMFC volunteers will help advertise the 50/50 raffle, work at the information table and inflatable, and staff the beverage tent.  This is a great community event and there are fireworks scheduled for after the game!

I am looking for volunteers who can help on Thursday, July 3 from 4:30 – approx. 9:30 pm. Shifts can be worked out if necessary.

Here is a little bit of information about our charity.  Luke Messick was an avid soccer player.  In May 2021, Luke was tragically killed in an automobile collision by a reckless and distracted driver while on his way to play an indoor soccer game.  At the time of his passing, Luke was actively working to create a non-profit charity to support youth soccer in Ghana and anywhere there was a need.  That mission continues and is now called "Luke Messick Futbol Charities, Inc."

Our work in Ghana continues as we have been able to fund a much-needed community improvement project.  A shelter next to the soccer fields was rebuilt for the orphanage soccer team we support.  We have also paid to refurbish the site's restrooms and grade the dirt soccer field to remove rocks.  We have donated over 1,000 pounds of gear to these children since 2021.  We have also provided scholarships to local high school students and have sent local children to soccer camps during the summer.  More projects and information can be found at LukeMessickFC.com.
