Literacy for Life | http://www.literacyforlife.org/ Why Volunteer?
Tutoring is rewarding and life-changing! Tutors consistently share that they gain more than they give, making this a truly enriching experience. Meanwhile, with the help of their individual tutors, adult learners achieve personal goals that group classes may not address. Everyone benefits: the tutor, the learner, their families, and our community. Who?
Learners are local adults who desire to build their basic skills to support their families, obtain better jobs, pursue education and training opportunities, and share their talents with the community. Some are immigrants who need stronger English to thrive in the United States, while others are Americans with educational gaps. What?
Tutors provide one-to-one or small group instruction in reading, writing, math, English language, computer skills, workforce preparation, financial literacy, and more. The type of tutoring you do depends upon your skills and interests. When?
Tutors and learners meet weekly at a mutually convenient time. We will find a match that fits your schedule. Where? Pairs meet at a mutually convenient public location or online. Locations include the Literacy for Life offices along with libraries, churches, and other community spaces. How?
We equip you to succeed! Tutors complete a New Tutor Training series, then receive ongoing support through individual consultation, in-service workshops, a resource library, and referral to online resources. Staff recommend appropriate teaching materials based on the learner’s skills and goals. Ready to make an impact?
